How to Choose the Right Bike for you

beach cruiserWe all remember the first time we tried riding a bike when we were young. For most of us, it ended in utter failure, along with some bruises and scrapes depending on how much speed you built up. Nowadays, pending the fact we’ve learned how to ride a bike, biking is one of the more popular leisure activities. However, before going out on some nice, scenic rides with your friends or family you need to find the right bike to do it on.

First of all, you’ll want to find out what different types of bikes there are and learn a little about them. You have types like your standard, old-fashioned, single speed bikes, BMX bikes for extreme sport and competition, road bikes for long distance riding, mountain bikes for strenuous terrain, tandem bikes to ride in pairs, and recumbent bikes that have a reclined seat to relax in while you ride. Check out each kind of bike and maybe try them out to see which one fits you best.
Next, you’ll want to think about the amount you will be using the bike. This is so you don’t go out spending a ton of money on a bike you’ll ride three times out of the year. Look at the bike in terms of additions as well. If you plan on adding a basket, saddlebags or a baby seat, you’ll want to make sure that the bike is compatible. Also, the fit of the bike is crucial to consider. Make sure the straddle height isn’t too high, and that the right seat for you comes with the bike so you don’t have to purchase a separate one.
Finally, the most important aspect will be to test ride the bike before you buy it. The last thing you want is to buy a bike that doesn’t end up being the right one for you and you have to deal with the wasted money and a bike you don’t like riding.
